dhs_110510.jpg Douglas used its home field to its advantage Friday night and knocked off Phoenix 24-13 in an OSAA Class 4A "play-in" game. With the victory, the Trojans avenged a season-opening 22-20 loss at Phoenix back on September 3.

Douglas scored first on a three-yard scamper by Ricky Cortes late in the opening quarter to make it 6-0.  The Pirates took their only lead early in the second quarter at 7-6, but the ninth-ranked Trojans would go up 12-7 at the break.

Cortes finished with two touchdowns; and quarterback Tyson Dahl threw a TD pass to wide receiver David Guthrie as Douglas improved to 8-2 on the season.

Elsewhere, the Sutherlin Bulldogs' season ended Friday night with a 28-14 loss to Klamath Union; Glide lost to Gold Beach 62-7; Camas Valley beat Powers 66-26; and Elkton finished the season with a 64-20 victory over Gilchrist.

Oakland secured second place in the Mountain View Conference with a 48-30 win over Crow.

Jessup Simmons scored twice and intercepted two passes for the Oakers (6-2, 7-2); and senior Joel Redfield added a pair of touchdowns, including a 75 yard kickoff return for a score.

There were three other games in the MVC as Glendale downed Yoncalla 28-13; Riddle lost to unbeaten Monroe 62-20; and Oakridge blew out Days Creek 71-30.
