TRI CITY, Ore. -- The South Umpqua volleyball team is advancing in the Class 3A playoffs.

The third-seeded Lancers Saturday defeated Irrigon, the 14th-seeded team, three games to none (25-17, 25-10, 25-8).

Jenna Whitmore had 10 digs, 8 kills and 7 blocks; Alyssa Rainville notched 4 aces and 4 kills; Sydnie Johnson had 16 digs, 13 assists and 3 kills; Shaylin Gray with 3 aces, 8 digs and 5 kills; and Kalie Mann had 5 digs and 6 kills.

They'll play next Friday at Forest Grove High School in the state tournament against St. Mary's of Medford or Horizon Christian of Tualatin.

It's the first time SU has played in the state tourney since 2000.
