douglasfb100408.jpgOffense has been in short supply for the Douglas High School football team through the first five weeks of the season, but don't tell that to the Siuslaw Vikings. The Trojans scored often against Siuslaw and rolled to the 40-14 win in Friday night's Far West League opener for both teams.

In the Trojans four losses, they were able to muster only 27 points and didn't score an offensive touchdown until week three. But, things turned around against the defending league champions as Douglas cruised to the 26 point victory.

Triton Crane scored four rushing touchdowns and returned an interception for another score in South Umpqua's 43-14 romp over winless Brookings-Harbor. The Bruins scored on their first offensive play of the game when tailback Dustin Paradis ran 51 yards for the touchdown. The lead didn't last long because the Lancers were able to answer two plays later and tied the score at 7-7. South Umpqua scored 43 unanswered points on the way to its third win in four games.

The Sutherlin Bulldogs were the only local Far West League team to lose Friday night. North Bend came to Sutherlin and beat the Bulldogs 20-8.

Elsewhere, Sheldon won its 57th consecutive Southwest Conference game beating Roseburg 42-14. The loss dropped the Indians to 1-5 on the season.

Glide was no match for the Sunset Conference's newest member, Cascade Christian, as the Challengers rolled to a 54-6 win over the Wildcats. Also, Reedsport lost to Coquille 18-14.

In the 2A ranks, Oakland continued its winning ways with a 33-0 shutout of Riddle. North Douglas improved to 2-1 in league play beating Monroe 26-14. First-place Oakridge dominated Glendale 45-12 and Central Linn downed Yoncalla 26-0.

"I've never been so proud of a loss," Eagles head coach JJ Mast said. "We played without our starting quarterback, wide reciever, tailback and center."

Eli Wolfe's Camas Valley Hornets pulled off the biggest upset Friday afternoon downing previously unbeaten Triad 34-8. Also, Elkton beat North Lake 28-20 in overtime.
