The Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino season opener at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore., was a coming-out party for the Jobe family, while Dean Cast made the ASA Modifieds division his own personal playground Saturday.
Cast battled fast-timer Steven Snowder (16.329 seconds) to win the main event after dueling with Snowder before winning the trophy dash. Cast also won the heat race, with Snowder finishing third.
Dave Jobe pulled down fast time in the Hornets with a 20.69 lap around the 3/8-mile paved oval, but he had to settle for fifth in the main event and runner-up on the A Heat. Monty Cox Jr. won the Hornets feature race.
Other Jobes, however, made a splash.
James Jobe swept the main event and heat race in the JunkYard Dogs action, and Molly Jobe pulled down fast time in the Lady Stingers (21.380) before finishing second in the main event behind winner Jessy Jobe.
Larry Means had a productive first night of 2009 in the Super Stocks, parlaying a fast lap of 16.745 into a heat race victory and a main event win. He finished second to Donny Moore in the trophy dash and then traded spots with Moore in the preliminary and feature. Defending Street Stocks champion Amos Rhodes didn't disappoint in his return to the track, grabbing the trophy dash and then winning the main event. Rick Jump turned the division's fast lap in 17.424.
Rob Mueller captured the first Mini Stocks main event of the season, out-distancing A Heat winner Jason Gotz, who was second in the feature, and fast-timer Dave Wilson (18.226), who finished third in the main.
Racing continues Saturday at Douglas County Speedway, an ASA-sanctioned track, with Race of Champions and Powder Puff Mini Stocks. Adult admission is $8 for the night of racing that will feature ASA Modifieds, Mini Stocks, OTRO, Hornets and J-Car/Trucks.
