dc_speedway.jpg                                                                                       ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Chris Celorie of Damascus, Ore., took the checkered flag Saturday night as the Big 5 Late Model 50-lap feature kicked off the 2009 season for that class at ASA-sanctioned Douglas County Speedway .

Celorie's victory highlighted a night in which Rob Mueller solidified his lead in the Mini Stocks with another main event victory. The Roseburg, Ore., driver entered the night with a 27-point lead in the standings.

Roseburg's Jeff Solberg took the main event in Street Stocks, followed by Gold Beach, Ore.'s Amos Rhodes and season points leader Rick Jump from Grants Pass, Ore.

Ben Herbert of Oakland, Ore., made a move in the Super Stocks division, beating points leader Don Moore of Roseburg in Saturday's feature race.

Another strong contingent of Hornets required two main events Saturday night and produced two racers who got their first feature victories of the season.

Tyler Risley from Winston, Ore., finished ahead of points leader Monte Cox Jr. of Roseburg in the A main. Paul Tigrett of Sutherlin, Ore., captured the checkered flag in the B main.

The night was capped with Sherm's Thunderbird boat race during which nine competitors dragged fiberglass boats around a soaked 3/8th-mile paved oval. J-Cars and Trucks and Junkyard Dogs were used to tow the trailer-less boats, which caused a destructive mess on the track. Brad McMaster was declared the winner.

As an American Speed Association-sanctioned track, Douglas County Speedway is part of the ASA Member Track National Championship for the Modified division.

The goal of the ASA Short Track National Championship is to activate a measuring system that takes into account many variables, such as field size, inversion, wins and number of races in a season, and create a level playing field to determine who is the ‘best-of-the-best’ of the ASA Member Track Champions Nationwide.

The ASA Joe Gibbs Driven National Member Track Champion Award was designed to give the National Champion exposure with one of the top teams in racing – Joe Gibbs Racing. Joe Gibbs Driven Oil, a division of Joe Gibbs Racing, sells the actual oil products developed and used by Joe Gibbs Racing to racers at all levels. More information can be found at www.joegibbsdriven.com.

The ASA Member Track program is comprised of a network of short tracks around the United States, as well as a variety of regional and national touring series. For news and information from all the racetracks and tours involved in the American Speed Association, visit www.ASA-Racing.com.
