hutchins.jpgThe Roseburg Indians trailed North Medford the entire game before mounting a fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Black Tornado 49-47 in a Southwest Conference girls basketball game Tuesday night at Stewart Robertson Memorial Gymnasium in Roseburg. 

North Medford's Alyssa Maurer nailed a three-pointer to make it 47-45 Black Tornado with 2:15 left to play, but Roseburg sophomore Alicia Alspaugh scored on a baseline drive to tie the ball game before senior Courtney Hutchins gave the Indians the lead for good with an inside score. A last-second three-point attempt by Maurer fell short at the buzzer.

Roseburg improved to 2-9 in SWC play, while North fell to 4-7.

Douglas senior Taylor Bond had 19 points in the Trojans 64-30 win at South Umpqua; North Bend upended Sutherlin 45-33; Glide beat Rogue River 53-44; Taylor McLean scored 13 points to lead Oakland to a 61-17 rout of Yoncalla; Glendale bested Riddle 50-37; and North Douglas lost to Monroe 50-40. 

snook.jpgThe Roseburg boys basketball team saw its six game winning streak come to an end Tuesday with a 62-57 loss at North Medford. Tim Webber led the Indians with 15 points; Brandon Johnson scored 14 points while playing sick. Josh Malone chipped in 10 points.

Roseburg (6-5 SWC, 15-6 overall) now stands in fourth place in the Southwest Conference behind the Black Tornado (6-5, 12-9), which takes over fourth due to leading the head-to-head series against the Indians. nm.jpg

 

David Guthrie scored 23 points as Douglas beat South Umpqua 56-53 in a Far West League game in Tri City.

The Trojans (3-7, 5-12) jumped out to a 20-2 lead and led by as many as 18 points in the third quarter before the Lancers (5-5, 11-7) pulled to within a point in the final seconds.

SU played without starters J.J. Jansen (suspension) and David Huling (illness).

Elsewhere, Sutherlin lost at North Bend 64-52; and Glide won a Sunset Conference battle with Rogue River 72-61; and Reedsport was beaten by Bandon 64-40.  

walton.jpgPatrick Goodman had 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds in Oakland's 52-30 Mountain View Conference victory at Yoncalla; North Douglas beat Monroe 58-50; and Glendale kept Riddle winless with a 70-55 win over the Irish.
