Miranda Mendengall made two free throws with 1.9 seconds remaining to lift top-ranked Sutherlin to a 44-42 win over Junction City in a quarterfinal game at the OSAA Class 4A girls basketball state tournament Wednesday night at Gill Coliseum.
Kayce Mock led the Bulldogs (26-0) with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
The Tigers (19-6) jumped out to a 9-0 advantage and stretched their first quarter lead to as many as 12 points. The Far West League champs outscored Junction City 15-2 in the second quarter and never again trailed in the game.
Sutherlin plays La Grande in a semifinal game Thursday night at 6:30PM.
