The honor comes on the heels of Bell's 300th career coaching win two weeks ago against Thurston. The coach has since won two more games leading up to Friday night's contest against top-ranked Sheldon of Eugene.

Roseburg mayor Larry Rich awarded Bell with a plaque signifying the Key to the City, which is the highest award given out by Roseburg's city government, according to Rich. The mayor mentioned that it would take 30 seasons worth of perfect 10-0 records to achieve 300 victories. Bell did it in just 40 years.

Bell spoke and recounted his early years as a head coach, including a ribbing of city councilman Rick Coen, who was Bell's first quarterback at Roseburg High.

Meanwhile, the fourth-ranked Indians are 6-0 overall and 4-0 in Special District 1 play. Thurman Bell is one of just three coaches to reach the 300 victory milestone in Oregon.
