South Umpqua struggled in its conference opener losing to Siuslaw 10-3 in a Far West League baseball game Tuesday afternoon in Tri City.

SU outhit the fifth-ranked Vikings seven to six, but were unable to come up with the big hit when needed.

"We left 10 guys in scoring position," Lancers head coach Ryan Savage said. "Walks and errors also accounted for eight of Siuslaw's runs."

Elsewhere, Sutherlin went 11 innings to beat North Bend 15-6; and Blake Kennerly tossed a two-hitter in Douglas's 11-1 win at Brookings-Harbor.

Tuesday also marked the beginning of the Far West League softball season as South Umpqua upended Siuslaw 6-4 in eight innings; Sutherlin beat North Bend 25-0; and Douglas shutout Brookings-Harbor 5-0.

Meranda Zanni struck out six batters over six innings to get the victory for the Trojans.
