Korey Smith won a pair of titles on Saturday to lead the Roseburg boys team to a second place finish at the Class 6A track and field state championships at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Smith took first in both the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles; and anchored the second place 4x400 meter relay team (Bruno Gegenhuber, Cody Fields, Micah Audiss and Smith).

On Friday, Roseburg's Ken Newcome set the school record in the triple jump enroute to winning the state title.  

The senior jumped 46-09.50 to beat Tigard's Joseph Hart and take home the first-place trophy. During Saturday's competition, Newcome cleared a personal best of 6-6 to place first in the high jump.

Sunset (58) won the team championship; RHS finished with 55 total points.

Two other local athletes captured titles at the 3A/2A/1A championships in Monmouth. Kasey Dunn of Days Creek edged Oakland's Zach Dickson in the 2A triple jump; and Camas Valley's Richard Andreas won the 400 meters in the 1A final.

Boys team titles went to Summit (5A); Philomath (4A); Nyssa (3A); Central Linn (2A); and Crane (1A).
