According to an ESPN report and the Washington Post Tuesday, the Washington Redskins have told punter Josh Bidwell "not to bother reporting to training camp" on Thursday because the team will be releasing him.
Bidwell, 35, spent all but four games on injured reserve last season with a hip injury. Teams can’t officially release players until Thursday.
"My short stint with Washington is done," Bidwell said in a posting on Facebook. "(I'm) looking forward to making the most of my next opportunity."
Bidwell is a 1994 graduate of Douglas High School in Winston. He punted for the University of Oregon before NFL stints with Green Bay, Tampa Bay and Washington.
