Conference 'player of the year' honors were given to three local girls basketball players.

Sutherlin's Kelsey Hill, Riddle sophomore Pele Gianotti and Camas Valley's Cheyenne Baker received their league's top award for their performances on the court in 2011-12.

The Far West League's first team also included Sutherlin's Miranda Mendenhall and Lainey Corbett, along with Douglas High's Geniva Johnson. The Bulldogs Josh Grotting was also named 'coach of the year' after guiding his team to the 4A state title game.

Joining Gianotti on the Mountain View Conference's top team were Oakland's Michelle Cottier and Brooke Spencer; and Days Creek's Stevielee Jansen. Riddle's Casey O'Toole and Days Creek's James Ellis shared 'coach of the year' honors. Meanwhile, Jazmyn Herrington was named the MVC's top defensive player.

The Skyline League's first team was filled with county athletes including Baker, Elkton's Christine Evoniuk, Allyse Doudna and Hannah Parker; and Umpqua Valley Christian's Liz Schroeder and Katie Smith. UVC's Tony Rocco was tabbed 'coach of the year'.

The Sunset Conference's top team included Reedsport's Eden Huebner and Glide junior Caroline Brown.
