The Glendale softball team lost to top-ranked Heppner 4-2 in the Class 2A/1A state title game Friday in Corvallis.

The Mustangs (23-4) scored a pair of runs in the first inning and increased the lead to 4-0 before the Pirates (28-2) mounted a late comeback.

Morgan Streeter led off the sixth inning with a single and would eventually come around to score with the help of two Heppner errors.

Victoria Mozingo scored Glendale's second run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning, but the game ended on the very same play when the other Pirate baserunner was thrown out trying to advance to third base.

Elsewhere, North Medford's Maryssa Becker struck out 15 batters as the Black Tornado beat South Salem 3-0 in the 6A title game; 5A Pendleton downed Silverton 6-1; 4A Banks blanked Cascade 2-0; and 3A Blanchet Catholic beat Santiam Christian 5-2.
