Officials_2012Governor John Kitzhaber has proclaimed July 28, 2012 to be Officiate Oregon Day.

The largest gathering of sports officials in Pacific Northwest history, Officiate Oregon Day will take place Saturday, July 28 at the Portland Marriott Downtown.

More than 650 Oregon high schools sports officials are registered for the event, hosted by the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) and the Oregon Athletic Officials Association (OAOA).  It will bring together officials to learn from those considered among the nation’s best. 

General and breakout sessions will feature keynote speakers and clinicians representing the sports of volleyball, soccer, football, wrestling, basketball, softball and baseball.

Speakers include retired NBA official Steve Javie and 35-year NBA official Joey Crawford, Major League Baseball crew chief Dale Scott, four-time NFL Super Bowl referee Jerry Markbreit as well as several nationally-recognized officials and coordinators from the NCAA, Pac-12 and MLS.  Many local high school coaches will participate in panel discussions.

Officiate Oregon Day will be held in conjunction with the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO) 30th Annual Summit scheduled for July 29-30 at the Portland Marriott Downtown.
