The Eugene Challengers season has ended after Waihapu, Hawaii defeated the Oregon champions 7-2 Sunday afternoon at the Pacific Northwest Regional American Legion Baseball Tournament in Billings, Montana.
Eugene (50-16) fell behind early after spotting the Hawaii state champs three runs in the first inning, which was all they would need to put the game away.
The Challengers were led at the plate by left fielder Joe Schindler, who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Schindler led the Challengers overall at the regional tourney, hitting .500 (8-for-16) with four doubles over the course of the four games. Jordan Thompson hit .438 (7-for-16).
Oregon's single-A state champion was also eliminated this weekend as North Medford was beaten by Glasgow, Montana 5-2 at the Northwest Regional in Burley, Idaho.
The Mavericks finished the season with an overall record of 50-19.
