Douglas erased an early deficit by reeling off 53 unanswered points in the Trojans season opening victory over visiting Cottage Grove.
Senior Nate Vosika ran for three scores and caught a TD pass from Jordan Shaffer as Douglas beat the Lions 53-7 in a non-league game Friday night in Winston.
South Umpqua lost home opener 52-18 to Newport despite a two touchdowns from junior running back Dakota Senger. Quarterback D.J. Holloway threw two TD passes, including a 35 yard hookup with Kristian Evans and a 20 yarder to Senger.
Elsewhere, Hayden Lent tossed a pair of touchdown passes to lead Roseburg to a 22-15 win over South Salem; Sutherlin lost to North Valley 36-22; Camas Valley beat Perrydale 38-6 in a rematch of the 2011 state championship game; Glide upended Oakridge 33-16; Neah-Kah-Nie downed Riddle 26-20; North Douglas was blanked by Creswell 47-0; Lost River downed Reedsport 36-0; Days Creek lost to McKenzie 50-22; and Yoncalla was beaten by Powers 42-30.
