The Douglas volleyball team jumped out of the gate fast in its season opener against Cottage Grove Thursday in Winston, winning the first game 25-23. However, an identical 25-23 game two loss to the Lions set the tone for the rest of the evening as the visitors would go on to take the match in three games, winning 25-15 and 25-19 in the final two. The Trojans face Elmira on Tuesday in their next non-league encounter.
The rest of the county enjoyed a successful run of victories Thursday night.
Roseburg defeated Eagle Point easily in three games, 25-12, 25-12, 25-12. The Indians are 2-0 on the season heading into the Central Catholic Tourney on Saturday.
Sutherlin downed Coquille in three games, and South Umpqua did the same against its opponent, Rogue River.
In the Class 2A ranks, Oakland defeated Glendale in an exciting five game match, with the Oakers taking the final round 15-10.
Days Creek had no problem in its three game win against Monroe, and North Douglas handed Riddle a loss in straight sets.
