An Umpqua Community College volleyball player has been named the South Region's defensive Player of the Week.
Freshman Karyssa Gomez tallied 36 digs, three blocks and a serving percentage of 85 over three matches.
"Karyssa has taken on many different roles this season," Umpqua head coach Chris Werner said. "She's been a defensive specialist, outside hitter, and right side hitter and excelled in each one."
The 5'7" freshman is from Bonanza, Oregon.
