Crater jumped out to a 14-2 first quarter lead and trailed only once in a 59-47 win over South Umpqua during an opening round game Thursday night at the Phoenix Invitational.

The Lancers fought back in the second quarter thanks to 13 first half points from sophomore Erik Johnson and took a 21-20 lead into halftime. The Comets (1-3) outscored SU 39-26 in the second half to secure their first victory of the season.

Sutherlin (5-1) faired much better dominating St. Mary's of Medford 75-49 behind 16 points apiece from Taler Jensen and Derrik Wattman.
