CP 2013The Central Point Comets will take on Northern Utah for the single-A Northwest Regional Championship in American Legion Baseball Tuesday.

The Comets are in the title game following a 17-10 win against the Alaska state champion Monday. Central Point reached the regional tourney in Wheatland, Wyoming, after winning the Oregon State Tournament at Legion Memorial Field in Roseburg. The Comets defeated Roseburg's Pepsi Bottlecaps in the state title game to advance.

In Eugene, the host Eugene Challengers lost in its upset bid to reach the 'AAA' American Legion World Series, losing 14-3 to Waipahu, HI, in the Northwest Regional championship game Monday at Swede Johnson Stadium. The Challengers finished the regular season last in the Area-4 Conference (2-8 league) and missed the Oregon State Tournament after losing at a Super Regional sub-tourney, but won three games to open the Challenger-hosted NW Regional, earning a shot at the title Monday.
