The teams combined for 97 points, but it was the Trojans that came out with the 49-48 victory.

South Umpqua got its 2013 season off on the right foot with a 16-14 win at Newport. Senior running back Dakota Senger rushed for 242 yards as the Lancers erased a 14 point halftime deficit.

Elsewhere, Sutherlin head coach Sean Radford lost his debut 35-0 to North Valley; Roseburg beat South Salem 47-21; Glide upended Oakridge 21-6; defending state champion Oakland downed Waldport 31-6; Riddle lost to Carson Graham (BC) 48-14; Camas Valley beat St. Paul 64-54; Elkton blew out Mohawk 66-28; and Days Creek beat McKenzie 60-20.
