Douglas wrapped up third place in the Far West League with a 41-38 win over South Umpqua Friday night in Winston.

The Lancers (2-3, 4-4) had a number of chances to pull off the victory, but it was the Trojans (3-2, 5-3) that would prevail.

With less than :30 on the clock, Erik Johnson hit Marcus Loper with the go-ahead score, but the touchdown was nullified because of a holding penalty. A few plays later Johnson completed a pass to Kristian Evans near the goal line, but the official ruled Evans down inside the one yard line.

Johnson was able to spike the football and stop the clock with :03 left in the game. The Lancers lined up for the final play, but the scoreboard operator inadvertently started the clock and the horn sounded before SU could get off the final play. In frustration, tailback Dakota Senger slammed the ball to the turf and the referee threw a flag.

After a signficant delay, the officials put the time back on the game clock and let South Umpqua run one final play. Unfortunately, the referee marked off 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct and the ball was marked at the 15 yard line. Johnson's pass to Evans fell incomplete in the corner of the endzone and Douglas hung on for the three-point win.
