South Umpqua fell short in its bid to get into the 4A state playoffs.

The Lancers (5-5) could not convert on a fourth down inside the Seaside 20 yard line with 14.6 left in the game and lost to the Seagulls 50-47 in a play-in game Friday night at Broadway Field.

Senior tailback Dakota Senger rushed for five touchdowns and Erik Johnson tossed a pair of TD passes in the loss.

Douglas (6-4) also lost its play-in game 20-6 at Henley.
