The Portland Barbers have had their way this season with Roseburg's Dr. Stewart's in American Legion Baseball. The Barbers won all four regular season meetings against the Docs and they made it five straight with a 6-4 win Wednesday in the opening round of the Oregon State Tournament.
With the loss the Docs will play Thursday morning at 9a.m. against Dallas, a 7-4 loser to the Medford Mustangs in the early game of the double-elimination tournament.
Chris Stone led Roseburg, going 2-for-3 with a double and triple and an RBI. Cory Finlay was 2-for-4 at the plate.
Jacob Fricke pitched seven strong innings for the Docs on just two days rest following Roseburg's marathon run in winning a Super Regional title Sunday. Fricke struck out seven Barbers before being relieved in the top of the 8th inning with his team trailing 4-3.
The Docs tied the game at four in the bottom of the eighth before Portland tacked on two runs in the top of the ninth for the win.
