There were 13 local teams in action during the opening night of high school football.

Douglas lost its home opener 56-30 to Illinois Valley and Douglas County's lone 6A school, Roseburg, suffered a 24-0 home loss to Canby Friday night at Finlay Field 

Meanwhile, South Umpqua running back Kyler Merritt and quarterback Erik Johnson each ran for a pair of touchdowns in the Lancers 47-12 victory over visiting Hidden Valley. Johnson also tossed a TD pass to junior wide receiver Shawn Rigsby.
