Roseburg snapped a three-game losing skid with a 42-17 victory over Thurston in a Southwest Conference football game Friday night at Finlay Field.

The Indians (2-4, 3-5) moved into sole possession of fifth place in the conference standings and are in line for one of the eight at-large bids in the upcoming OSAA playoffs.

Elsewhere, Kyler Merritt scored three touchdowns and junior Shawn Rigsby added a pair of scores in South Umpqua's 52-0 rout of visiting Douglas.

The Lancers (3-2, 6-2) finished third in the Far West League and will host Ontario (3-5) in next week's play-in round.
