A local high school coach has won an award from the National Federation of State High School Associations.

The Federation named Roseburg softball coach Tony Campos state Coach of the Year.

"It feels good to be recognized for our community and for the Roseburg High School softball program. We've been pretty successful over the years," Campos said.

RHS softball players say the honor is well deserved.

"He knows how to push everyone to exceed their expectations and he just makes you feel like you're giving it your all," said Jacey Conklin, a player on Roseburg’s varsity softball squad.

Teammate Kyndle Delcollo added, "You go in there having this mindset of ‘I'm only so good’ and he pushes you to be ten times better than you ever thought you could be."

Campos has helmed the school's softball program for 15 years and is humbled by this award.

"It comes down to the head coach getting the recognition, but there are a lot of people that put in the time that really make this a successful program."

The Oregon Coach of the Year Award winners will be honored at a ceremony on May 23rd.
