HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Roseburg's baseball team suffered a 4-0 defeat in its season opener Wednesday against Westview at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro.

The Indians were unable to muster any offense against the Wildcats in a game that kicked off Troy Thompson's 13th season as Roseburg's head coach.

Roseburg managed just two hits in the game, including a seventh-inning double by Austin Shaddy. The Indians left seven runners on base.

Chris Stone took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out three in 4-plus innings of work. Kenyon Yovan picked up the win for Westview. Both teams committed two errors in the game.

Roseburg will host McMinnville Friday in its home opener at Legion Memorial Field. It will be the second of just five non-conference games for the Indians this season as the new format of the Southwest Conference features 21 league games in total.

Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., weather permitting.
