150323 South Umpqua softballSouth Umpqua's softball team opened its season Monday with two straight wins, defeating Klamath Union and Santiam Christian back-to-back at the City of Medford Tourney at US Cellular Park.

The Lancers (2-0) scored seven runs in the second inning en route to a 23-3 win in their first game against Klamath and then went on to beat Santiam Christian 7-6 in a close second game. SU continues the round-robin tournament Tuesday, facing Lakeview and Yamhill-Carlton.

Elsewhere, Lakeridge beat Roseburg 7-2 at the Jesuit/Sunset Varsity Softball Tournament. The Indians (1-1) play Sunset and West Linn Tuesday.

The Sutherlin softball team suffered a non-league loss to North Bend, losing 13-3 in the opening game of their doubleheader. The second game was canceled due to rain.

In baseball, Roseburg split its spring break doubleheader with Pendleton with a 10-0 win in the first game to pick up its first win of 2015. Chris Stone pitched a 1-hitter for the win. The Buckaroos won the nightcap 13-6.

Philomath bested Sutherlin 14-6 in a morning game at the Yaquina Bay Classic in Newport. Sutherlin lost to Molalla in the afternoon 7-4.

Illinois Valley at Glendale and North Douglas's game against the Douglas JV was canceled due to rain.
