ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Thurman Bell is going to coach one more season of football at Roseburg High.

Then the legendary Indians mentor will step aside for his successor.

"I'm going to retire at the end of next year," said Bell, who turns 72 on April 10.

Bell met Monday with Roseburg athletic director Russ Bolin, with immediate retirement one of the options.

"But it's late to hire somebody for next season," Bell told the Portland Tribune Tuesday, "and we're losing a principal and vice principal, so there is going to be a bunch of turnover. (Bolin) wants me to go another year."
