Roseburg's softball team is off to a good start in Southwest Conference play after beating Thurston 8-1 Thursday in the league opener at Roseburg's Stewart Park.

The Indians (3-2 overall) were finally able to play the game after it was postponed twice due to weather. They'll play a doubleheader at Willamette Saturday.

Elsewhere, Douglas won its third straight game after losing its season opener, topping Elmira  7-2 on the road Thursday. The Lady Trojans travel to Glide Friday.

Oakland downed Oakridge 10-3.

In local prep baseball, South Umpqua whipped Rogue River 12-2 and Oakland similarly took care of Oakridge 12-2 in five innings.
