150531 Roseburg Wrestling banner 400AKRON, Ohio -- Two Roseburg High School wrestlers have finished their trip to the 2015 Fila Cadet Greco Nationals this weekend in Akron, Ohio.

Layne VanAnrooy (69kg) and Haydn Maley (85kg) have been wrestling in the tournament throughout the weekend. VanAnrooy took 3rd in Greco and 4th in Freestyle. Maley placed 7th in Greco and had to withdraw from Freestyle due to a shoulder injury Saturday.

In an exciting final match for third place (69kg) in the Greco finals, VanAnrooy fell behind 5-0 early in the first round against Trevell Timmons of Illinois, but rallied to take a 6-5 lead at the end of the round. After falling behind 10-6 he again rallied to take a 12-10 lead. Timmons scored a takedown in the final seconds to tie it at 12. Despite the tie, Timmons was awarded the win because he scored the match's final points.

VanAnrooy competed in a bracket with 29 other wrestlers from around the country while Maley had 17 other competitors in his bracket. Both wrestlers also represent the local Roseburg Mat Club. They were accompanied by coaches Dave Maley and Mike VanAnrooy.
