ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Umpqua Community College basketball teams kicked off the season on a high note Friday as both men's and women's teams picked up season-opening victories.
The UCC men defeated Big Bend 88-69.
Kolten Mortensen led the way for the RiverHawks with 20 points. Isaac Lundgren scored 17 and Akoi Yout had 16. Cameron Benzel chipped in 12 points and led UCC with 10 rebounds.
The Umpqua Invitational continues for the men on Saturday with a 4 p.m. match-up against Simpson JV.
Earlier Friday, the RiverHawk women had no trouble against the Oregon Club Team in Roseburg, handing the visitors an 86-35 defeat.
UCC's women are back in action next Saturday with a home game against Grays Harbor.
