soccer0922.jpgSouth Umpqua moved into sole possession of first place in the District 3 girls soccer standings thanks to its 2-0 win over Douglas Monday afternoon in Tri City. Wendy Stone and Vanessa Jackson each scored a goal as the Lancers improved to 4-0-1 in league play. With the loss, the Trojans dropped to 1-4 on the season.

There was one other District 3 game played Monday as Glide and Umpqua Valley Christian battled to a 2-2 tie.

Rick Dewitt's South Umpqua boys soccer team cruised to a 9-2 win over Douglas and Michael Graham scored twice to lead Umpqua Valley Christian over Canyonville Christian 6-1.

In local volleyball action, Elkton improved to 5-0 in Skyline League play with a 25-13, 25-11, 25-20 win at Umpqua Valley Christian. Robin Whipple led the Elks with seven kills and seven assists and sophomore Rachel Winslow added nine assists in the victory.
