douglas101708.jpgThe Douglas Trojans are the team to beat in the Far West League thanks to their 17-0 victory over Sutherlin Friday night in Winston. Joe Polamalu's team won for the fourth time in five games and improved to 3-0 in league. The Bulldogs are now 1-2.

The Trojans' defense has been especially impressive in recent games shutting out their last two opponents.

There was a huge upset in the Far West League as South Umpqua beat North Bend 47-33 in a shootout in Tri City. Quarterback Ryan Smedley threw four first half touchdown passes and Triton Crane ran for two fourth quarter touchdowns as the Lancers took over sole possession of second place with a league mark of 2-1.

Grants Pass scored two late touchdowns to beat the Roseburg Indians 28-20 during a Southwest Conference football game at Finlay Field in Roseburg. The Indians looked like they would pull off the upset after they marched down the field and scored midway through the fourth quarter to take a 20-14 advantage, but that would be the last time Roseburg would have the lead.

"We had a bad snap on the extra point and that just ignited them," Indians' head coach Thurman Bell said. "I'm disappointed, but extremely proud of the way our kids played."

With the loss, Roseburg dropped to 1-2 in conference play, while the Cavemen improved to 2-1.

In the 3A ranks, Glide lost to Myrtle Point 20-14 in overtime and Reedsport was shutout by Cascade Christian 39-0.

Oakland traveled to North Douglas and beat the Warriors 13-6 in a Mountain View Conference game in Drain. The Oakers are now 4-1, while North Douglas dropped to 3-2. Elsewhere, Glendale picked up its first conference win beating Central Linn 33-20. Monroe beat Riddle 28-22 and Oakridge blew out Yoncalla 48-8.

The Days Creek Wolves beat county rival Camas Valley 50-36 in a Skyline League game Friday afternoon in Days Creek. Also, Elkton beat Powers 54-14.
