Sutherlin's Rob Perkins has been honored as the outstanding 4A high school athletic director for 2010.

The Oregon Athletic Directors Association recognized Perkins and five others during the 41st annual OADA State Conference held April 19 at Sunriver Resort.

Perkins, who has headed Sutherlin's athletic department for the past 10 years, retired on December 1, 2009, but will not officially end his tenure until June 11.

"One of my fondest memories was being a part of the school's first-ever girls basketball state championship in 2008," Perkins said. "I'm definitely going to miss the kids and the competition."

Josh Grotting will take over as Sutherlin's athletic director beginning in the 2010-11 school  year.

The OADA recognizes athletic directors from each of the six classifications through nominations submitted by current and former associates, school personnel and community members and are evaluated by an Awards Committee, and approved by the OADA Executive Board.
